The most useful screen-time question is: what is my child doing with their mind during these minutes? Solving, predicting, decoding and building demand more thought than repeated tapping, passive watching or chasing rewards.
Imagine Sofia, a parent in Barcelona, standing beside the kitchen table at 6:42 p.m. Pasta water is beginning to boil. Her eight-year-old son, Nico, has the family tablet balanced against a fruit bowl, and the agreed stopping time has arrived.

Watch what happens after a mistake
The clearest signal often appears when something goes wrong.
Does the activity flash an answer, hand over a prize and rush forward? Or does it help the child inspect the mistake, try a different move and notice why the result changed?
This is where educational screen time earns the word “educational.” A wrong answer should create another chance to think.
